IPEd

Editors WA is a member of the Institute of Professional Editors Ltd (IPEd).

IPEd represents the interests of the editing profession at the national level. It has previously (as CASE — Council of Australian Societies of Editors) developed two significant initiatives:

  • Australian Standards for Editing Practice (2001), which sets out the skills and knowledge expected of editors working in Australia. Download a PDF here.
  • CASE Editing Standards: National Policy on Editing Theses (developed in collaboration with the deans and directors of graduate studies). Download a PDF here.
IPEd has also initiated a series of national conferences for editors, usually held every second year.

IPEd’s current major activities include:

  • development of a national accreditation scheme for editors
  • revision of the Australian Standards for Editing Practice
  • national campaign to raise public awareness of the role and value of editing
  • assessment of national training and mentoring facilities
  • finalisation of the institute’s legal constitution.
Editors WA is represented on the governing council of IPEd, on various working groups and on the Accreditation Board.
