Some editors specialise in poetry or fiction (adult or children’s), memoir or family history. Some are specialists in subject areas like botany or science, history or cultural studies. Some specialise in academic theses, and others in corporate publications – working on reports, submissions, brochures, manuals, flyers.

Many editors are generalists, with experience and expertise in more than one area.
